Zakk Knight is a talented young local blues guitarist. AroundCarmel.com interrupted one of his many practice sessions to get to know this young man behind the grown-up sound. Zakk and his band are online at www.zakkknight.com, on Facebook and YouTube. You can hear them play live in Carmel on Saturday, January 7, starting at 9:00 p.m. at Daddy Real’s “The Place” at 3855 E. 96th St.
Please tell us about yourself.
I just graduated in December from Lawrence Central High School. I’m 17 years old and I’ve been playing blues and rock guitar since I was 13. I never took lessons; I just picked it up watching others. My interest in music came from my dad, former Colts player Steve Knight, who is now a professional session bass player and singer. I also spent a lot of time listening to the classics by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Elvis, Prince, Robert Johnson, and Hubert Sumlin. My mom, Debra Knight, is my biggest fan and number one supporter.
