CHS Planetarium Kicks Off First Public Show of the School Year

CHS_Planetarium The first Carmel Planetarium show of this school year is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, at 7 p.m. and a second show at 8 p.m. The planetarium star projector is used to simulate the night sky and deliver a fun and educational journey for the entire family. The September show will investigate constellations and bright stars of early fall and late summer as well as deep sky objects inside constellation boundaries.

Teen Group Offers Free Money for Youth-Led "Green" Projects

carmel_green_teen The Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program is offering grants up to $1,000 to fund youth-led volunteer eco-friendly projects in Carmel or Clay Township. Applications are due September 20, 2010. Awards will be distributed by October 20, 2010. This is the third round of grants the Green Teen Program has provided to local youth groups. An Open Letter to the Community from Carmel Clay Schools re: Redistricting

carmel_clay_schools_logo Carmel is a great place to live. We are growing and welcoming new families to our schools all the time. This is good. Unfortunately, growth does not always come equally to all schools. Several of our Westside schools are at full capacity with every room being used. It is imperative that we start planning for the 2011-2012 school year and our continued growth.

At the August 22, 2010, School Board meeting, the board voted to implement the newly created redistricting planning process. This planning process will allow parents and administrators, over the next couple months, to work together to find the best solution to equalizing our student population. The redistricting process we are now implementing was created and based off data received from a redistricting survey administered to parents in February 2010 as well as the recommendations suggested from the Redistricting Study Committee. Purdue Professor Who Testified before Congress on Magnitude of Gulf Oil Spill to Speak in Carmel

Carmel_Chamber_logo He testified before Congress, and newscasters sought him for expert analysis. Steven Wereley, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University and an expert in microfluids, has been all over the national news talking about the BP Oil Spill and how much oil really leaked from the depths of the ocean. In May, Professor Wereley and the other members of the Flow Rate Technical Group, a government task force, arrived at an official estimate of 35,000-60,000 barrels of oil per day – greatly in excess of the estimates provided by BP of 5,000 barrels per day. Professor Wereley remains at the forefront of the experts who are knowledgeable about the quantity of the spill and will speak at the Carmel Chamber’s Sept. 8 luncheon.
